Hartford, Kentucky - July 20th, 2026 – Ohio County Healthcare recently achieved accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation as a Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery.
Status as an accredited Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery means that Ohio County Healthcare has met nationally recognized standards. Not all pursue accreditation, and among those who do, not all meet the standards to earn it. We are the first Orthopedic center with this title in the state of Kentucky.
“Receiving the Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire orthopedic team,” said Shellie Shouse, CEO of OCH. “This achievement reflects our commitment to providing patients with outstanding surgical care and exceptional outcomes right here, close to home.”
Ohio County Healthcare underwent an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure our facility and surgeons met Surgical Review Corporation's (SRC) rigorous standards and requirements. As part of the review, SRC audited the applying surgeons' experience, surgical techniques, and case volumes, requiring a minimum of 200 orthopedic procedures annually. During the audit, SRC noted that both Dr. Mark McGinnis and Dr. Mikel Tihista had high orthopedic surgery volumes and received zero deficiencies in all audited areas. The facility assessment evaluated equipment, clinical pathways, standardized operating procedures, patient education, and quality assurance processes. No deficiencies were identified during the facility audit.
“We’re proud to recognize Ohio County Healthcare for their commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
Ohio County Healthcare’s Surgical Unit has been open since October of 2023 and has provided a total of 2,120 orthopedic surgeries. In August of 2024, OCH added to our robotic capabilities with the Mako Smart Robotics system, which has been used to assist during 434 joint surgeries including partial knee, total knee, and total hip replacements. This system is beneficial to patients as it results in smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, and quicker recovery times. Our Orthopedic team consists of Dr. Mark McGinnis – Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Mikel Tihista – Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Glenn Henning - Podiatrist, Jan Bickett, APRN, Terry McPherson, PA-C, Chris Swift, APRN, and Deanna Tarter, APRN.
