Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience in medical position preferred but not required;
    • Previous secretarial experience preferred.
  • Additional requirements / comments / education / experience / skills, registration, or certification: BLS

Job Description: This is not intended to be a complete list of duties performed by the ED Ward Clerk. Duties also as assigned. ER Ward Clerk is the face of the Emergency Department.

  • ED Ward Clerks are charged with:

  • Keeping charts in proper order for MD to see.

  • Assist medical and nursing staff in locating portions of medical record.

  • Making sure all charts have the necessary forms and are correctly labeled with patient information.

  • Making copies of the medical record as directed for transfers and admissions.

  • Completes daily activity sheets.

  • Completing errands assigned by administration and nursing staff. (Ex. But not limited to) Wheelchair transport of patients during admission and discharge. Delivery of specimens to lab, Delivery of requisitions when applicable.

  • Assist with phone calls, both outgoing and incoming.

  • HIM retrieval for ED records as needed.

  • Take necessary safety precautions when transporting patients of all ages.

  • Reports any faulty equipment and infection or safety hazards to the staff nurse on the unit.

  • All incidents are reported immediately to the supervisor, manager, director or whomever is in charge at the time of the findings.

  • The admitting clerks answer phones and direct visitors to patients.

  • Work collaboratively with doctors and staff to provide Outstanding Care Here

  • Manage multiple patients simultaneously, prioritizing needs continually

  • Always comply with all legal and safety requirements

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work environment

  • Work at maximum efficiency without compromising quality of care

  • Abide by all hospital rules and regulations

  • Conduct yourself in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure

  • Monitor coworkers and voice concerns to minimize errors

  • Maintain accurate and up to date patient charts

  • Attend all required training and continuing education events

  • Passion for continued learning and skill development

  • Team-player mentality and a positive attitude
