Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Previous HIM experience & medical terminology preferred with a storn pathology background
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Previous computer experience required.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Job Description:

The job description reflects the general details considered necessary to fulfill the essential job functions and shall

related knowledge and skills may be required.

1. Transcription: Transcribes medical dictation from dictation system into hospital system. Assures that

dictation is transcribed on the correct patient/account. Selects correct report type. Prioritizes dictation as

needed. Transcribes reports accurately and efficiently as dictated. Proofreads. Clarifies any questions or

discrepancies about dictation with appropriate staff or provider. Prints copies and/or faxes information to r

any provider, clinic, nursing home, etc. as indicated. Prints original reports to Med Surg or ICU for in-

house patients. Works with Medical Records staff and Lab to ensure reports are on accounts timely.

2. HIPAA / Compliance: Safeguards confidentiality. Follows HIPAA, compliance and all organizational

policies and procedures.

3. Communications: Answers phone promptly with a friendly, professional tone. Communicates with

visitors, co-workers & medical staff in a friendly, professional manner. Respectful of

all.

4. General Departmental Functions: General knowledge of HIM departmental functions. Attends mandatory

and other pertinent inservices. Communicates problems / concerns to Director. Embodies OCH values.

Knowledge of Policy Tech and Common Share. Other duties as assigned.

5. May be requested to be member of QI team.

6. Frequently accesses email to stay up to date on information within the organization and provides a way of

communication between staff members.
