The Med. Surg. Charge Nurse is responsible for Supervising the Med. Surg. nursing staff on the assigned shift to include patient care assignments and delegation of nursing duties, evaluation of nursing staff performance, provision of feedback to staff through day to day coaching and annual performance appraisals, participation in orientation to the Med. Surg. unit and active perticipation in performance improvement for inpatient nursing. The Med. Surg. Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising the patient care delivery on the assigned shift , assuring that nursing services are provided in a manner that is consistent with current nursing standards and the OCH policies/procedures, the hospital's purpose, vision and values as well as the KBN scope of practice and other regulatory requirements. Provides direct patient care to patients of all age groups on occasions as needed; this may be done in order to assure appropriate staffing needs. Assist in evaluation of potential swing bed patients as well as responsible for oversight of the care of swing bed patients (assessment, plan of care, implementation, re-assessment, patient care conferences). The Charge Nurse promotes teamwork throughout the organization; is responsible for communication flow from staff to leadership and from leadership to staff. In the absence of the department leadership and/or Administration personnel, the Med. Surg. Charge Nurse is administratively responsible for the hospital services and staff.
