Most people have headaches from time to time. But if you have a headache more days than not, you might have chronic daily headaches. Chronic daily headaches occur 15 days or more a month, for longer than three months.
The constant nature of chronic daily headaches makes them one of the most disabling headache conditions. The pain from chronic headaches can often limit or prevent you from participating in the daily activities of your life such as work and caring for family. Aggressive initial treatment and steady, long-term management can reduce pain and lead to fewer headaches.
Ohio County Pain Care offers weekly headache clinics each Friday to help patients regain quality of life. James Calhoun, APRN will help you to determine the type of headache you are experiencing. He will work with you to develop a plan to treat your headaches and reduce your pain.
Four common types of headaches:
1. Sinus Headaches—Most commonly caused by congestion or inflamed sinuses, these headaches usually come from a bad cold or seasonal allergy. Symptoms include pressure-like pain on a specific part of the face, tenderness of the face, and congestion.
2. Cluster—This type of headache is characterized by its frequent but brief recurrence and its severity. Pain typically focuses around one eye and can cause tearing and redness of the eye.
3. Tension—Generally the most common type of headache, these headaches are stress-related. Tightness similar to that of having a band around the head can spread into or from the neck with the tension headache.
4.Migraine—The most severe form of headache, migraine pain can last 2-3 days. Pain is typically one-sided and pulsating, often with nausea and sensitivity to light.
